The couple have gone on to welcome three more children
After opening up about their intimacy issues, they revealed during season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives that they had separated
Mikayla Matthews and Jace Terry have given The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans an intimate glimpse into the ups and downs of their marriage — including their surprise separation during season 4.
The couple first connected after the reality star left home when she was 15 years old, she explained in a September 2021 TikTok. Matthews and Terry welcomed their first child, Beckham, when she was just 17.
They married less than a year later, on March 1, 2018, and have since gone on to welcome three more children, including daughters Tommie and Haven. In February 2025, they announced that they were expecting their fourth baby, daughter Lottie, who arrived in July 2025.
Sadly, the couple shared during the fourth season of their Hulu reality show that they had split up due to intimacy issues that stem from Matthews being sexually abused throughout her childhood. Though they've continued to appear together on social media and at public events, she confirmed to PEOPLE in March 2026 that they were still separated.
“Last season, we dove into the beginning stages of it, and that was me revisiting all this trauma for the first time as well,” Matthews said of her experience being sexually abused. “It's still new to me, and it's new to him, and we're just navigating it the best way that we can."
So who is Mikayla Matthews' estranged husband? Here’s everything to know about Jace Terry and his relationship with the reality TV star.

Terry was more in the background in the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but Matthews held out hope that he would show off more of his personality in season 2.
“Me and my husband are very witty and playful with each other,” she told PEOPLE in September 2024. “I think he’s the funniest person I know, but he’s rarely on the show.”
That changed in season 2 when Terry started making more appearances not only on the show, but also on social media with the fellow husbands of the Mormon Wives.
In a January 2025 TikTok, Terry joined Taylor Frankie Paul's on-and-off boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, and Jessi Ngatikaura's husband, Jordan, in a video where they playfully referred to themselves as "DadTok," a nod to the show’s focus on their wives, who are part of the popular “MomTok” community on TikTok.
"When dadtok tries to make you film cringey videos with them," Terry wrote over a video of Mortensen and Ngatikaura jokingly arguing over his head about what content to make.

Matthews claimed on her Instagram Stories that Terry was fired from his job after the premiere of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Per his LinkedIn, Terry was a project manager for Waffle Love, a food establishment in Utah, until August 2024.
A few months later, Matthews joked that Terry had gotten a new job as her castmate Jessi's personal assistant at her hair salon, sharing a video on Instagram of him mixing colors, making sodas and organizing extensions for her while Jessi "yelled" at him.

Matthews first met Terry when she was 16 years old. In the September 2021 TikTok, the content creator explained that she and Terry found out she was pregnant “after less than a month of knowing each other.”
"I decided to keep the baby, told him and he was 110% supportive and we went from there," she wrote.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star shares four children — Beckham, Haven, Tommie and a newborn girl — with Terry. The couple welcomed Beckham in July 2017 before expanding their family with the birth of their daughter, Haven, in August 2019. Tommie joined the family in November 2021.
In February 2025, the two announced that they were expecting their fourth child, and their new baby girl joined their family on July 17.
Matthews announced her arrival with a post on Instagram, writing alongside photos of the two, "7•17•25 🤍 our perfect baby girl is here."
Matthews told PEOPLE that this pregnancy was unexpected for both her and her then-husband, especially in light of her recent health challenges. She has spoken openly online about living with chronic eczema and an undiagnosed chronic illness, which worsened after the birth of her third child and ultimately led her to remove her breast implants.
“With my health stuff, I didn't think I could get pregnant right now," Matthews said. "My husband was with me when I took the test. He never really has much of a reaction to anything, but we were both pretty in shock."
She continued, "Then it set in and we got really excited. We're definitely excited, nervous about my health and possibly passing anything on, but excited.”
Matthews also shared at the time that she was open to growing their family even more.
"It's so wild to me that we'll be a family of six. I feel like it's the Mormon in me coming out," she said. "I'm surrounded by Mormon culture still and my husband's siblings all have so many kids. They're like, 'Once you hit three kids, you can have 10 kids.' That's kind of the mindset I have."
Matthews and Terry announced their separation in season 4 of the show
Matthews and Terry opened up about their relationship in season 4 of SLOMW, sharing their frustrations with the progress of couples therapy amid their intimacy issues.
While Matthews felt like it's been “hard to focus” on the sessions as she experiences ongoing chronic skin flare-ups, Terry told friends that he's "not okay" with how little progress the two had made, but wanted to be patient with Matthews.
Their main issues stemmed from Matthews needing time to work through her trauma and intimacy issues, while Terry hoped that she could go to trauma therapy to work through them.
"I think it's hard anytime you bring up the stuff with the sex and the intimacy,” Matthews told Terry in one episode. “I feel it's hard on me because again, my nervous system is already in fight or flight, and I'm already maxed out. My bucket is full.”
"I know, but for me, it seems like the solution to that would be to commit to trauma therapy until you're at a point where it doesn't make your nervous system freak out," Terry responded.
Ultimately, they decided to separate but still see each other "every day" and attend events together.
“Unfortunately, I think it's just something that's going take a lot more time," Matthews told PEOPLE. "I feel like that's all I can say on it now.”
