For 12 years, Eva LaRue was living a nightmare created by a so-called "Freddie Krueger."

From 2007 to 2019, the CSI: Miami actress was the target of an anonymous stalker. Her traumatic ordeal is the subject of a new two-part documentary, My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story, which premiered on Nov. 13 on Paramount+.

After advancements in DNA matching, LaRue's harasser was finally caught, which was a stark difference from her work on television.

"What is crazy is we, on CSI: Miami, we were solving cases in 43 minutes, not including commercials. In real life, we did not have the technology we were pretending to have on the show," she said on CBS Mornings in November 2025.

So where is Eva LaRue now? Here's everything to know about how the actress dealt with her personal struggles behind the camera and what she is doing today.

LaRue is a California native who appeared in commercials as a child and then became a model and actress.

In 1993, she was cast as Dr. Maria Santos Grey on All My Children, for which she received a Daytime Emmy nomination. LaRue later joined CSI: Miami in 2005, playing Natalia Boa Vista from seasons 4 through 10.

She has been married three times. Her second husband was John Callahan, her former All My Children costar. The two were married from 1996 to 2005, and they welcomed a daughter, Kaya Callahan, born in 2001.

Even after their divorce, LaRue and Callahan remained friends until his death at age 66 from a stroke on March 28, 2020.

Starting in 2007, LaRue and her daughter became the target of an anonymous stalker who would send letters threatening to rape and murder them.

The disturbing pieces of mail were originally sent to LaRue through her manager and publicist. The notes contained threats and were signed, “Freddie Krueger,” the sadistic killer from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

While she thought it was a prank at first, more letters arrived, and LaRue realized she and her young daughter were being stalked.

“It was the most heinous, most deplorable, most sickening, most terrifying threats,” she told PEOPLE. “And then he began leveling them against my little girl.”

The actress had security cameras installed, and she and Kaya ended up moving three times. Unfortunately, the stalker eventually found them, with more unsettling mail arriving at each new location.

LaRue didn't tell her daughter about the letters for years.

“Because my mom kept so much hidden, I didn’t know much about it. It was like reliving it and yet experiencing it for the very first time," Kaya said about filming the Paramount+ docuseries.

LaRue's stalker was an Ohio resident named James David Rogers. He was a nurse's assistant at an assisted living facility, per CNN.

According to the Department of Justice, between 2007 and 2015, Rogers sent a total of 37 letters — handwritten and typed — to the actress and her daughter.

"The letters were anywhere between three to six or seven pages long, detailing in the most heinous, evil, grotesque, depraved way, how he wanted to kidnap my then-5-year-old daughter and I," LaRue said, per The New York Times.

In the fall of 2019, Rogers' stalking escalated when he called Kaya's high school several times. Rogers pretended to be her dad and asked about her whereabouts. On other occasions, he left threatening voice messages under his pseudonym, according to the newspaper.

The FBI collected DNA from the envelopes in which the letters were mailed and used genetic genealogy databases, such as 23andMe and Ancestry, until clues led them to a town in Ohio.

Rogers was arrested after the FBI was able to match the DNA from the envelopes with DNA from a discarded soda straw he used at Arby's one day after leaving work, CNN reported.

The FBI arrested him in November 2019, and in September 2022, he pleaded guilty to two counts of mailing threatening communications, two counts of stalking and one count of threats by interstate communications, per The New York Times.

“I sincerely apologize for what I did for the last 12 years, putting you and your family through hellish behavior,” Rogers told LaRue at his sentencing, per CNN (via CBS News). “I accept full responsibility. I hope you can put this behind you and at some point never think about me again.”

"I forgive you, but I cannot forget," she told him. "The fear is with me forever."

He was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison and was released in 2024.

In recent years, LaRue has returned to her soap opera roots. From 2019 to 2020, she appeared on The Young and the Restless — for which she won a Daytime Emmy in 2020 — and in 2024, she joined General Hospital.

After more than a year, she exited the long-running daytime series in June 2025.

"I was originally only supposed to be on the show for a couple of months," LaRue told Soap Opera Digest in June 2025. "And it ended up being a much longer run, which was great — and really fun because there are so many All My Children actors there and so it felt like home."

"I had a blast at General Hospital," she continued. "I loved being there, and I had a lot of really great scenes, and I loved everybody that I got to work with."

In November 2025, the docuseries My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story premiered on Paramount+. The two-part documentary focused on the 12 years the actress and her daughter were harassed by Rogers.

LaRue said she participated in the series to help stalking victims and advocate for stronger laws protecting them.

"I don't think we'll ever feel safe," she told CBS Mornings. "Your brain never goes back to not being hyper vigilant."
