Trump blames ‘Democrat Plot’ for his Butler assassination attempt

President Donald Trump has alleged that a “Democrat Plot” was behind the 2024 assassination attempt against him and claimed newly discovered information shows key evidence was missing, altered or corrupted.
“Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA. By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone,” Trump posted Tuesday on Truth Social.
The president continued: “New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago? This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed. Dirty Cop Christopher Wray should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said.”
There is no evidence that Democrats were involved in the attempted assassination of Trump at a campaign rally on July 13, 2024. After a extensive investigation, the FBI concluded last year that gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks acted alone.
The Independent has contacted the White House, FBI and the Office of Joe and Jill Biden for comment.

Crooks, 20, opened fire on Trump while he was on stage at the Butler Farm Show Grounds, shooting from a nearby rooftop with an AR-15-style rifle.
The gunfire grazed Trump’s right ear, killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore and injured two others. A U.S. Secret Service sniper shot and killed Crooks shortly after he began firing.
Hours after the attack, the FBI took over the investigation. According to the bureau, 485 employees worked on the case, conducting more than 1,000 interviews, reviewing 2,000 tips and executing more than 10 search warrants and 100 subpoenas.
Investigators examined 13 electronic devices connected to Crooks and his family, along with 35 online accounts, including social media, banking and email accounts. The FBI said it accessed all of Crooks’ accounts, including email accounts based in Germany and Belgium, and manually reviewed more than 500,000 electronic files.

The bureau said it found no evidence that a foreign individual, government or organization directed, inspired or assisted Crooks.
“We fully briefed the president, as a victim of this case, at the White House, providing him with all of the details of our investigation, and the president was satisfied with the results and where we left it,” Patel said.

Bongino added: “We have reviewed this case over and over — looked into every nugget. We have spoken to the families, the president — there is no cover-up here.”
U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche told reporters during a White House press conference Tuesday, without elaborating, that the FBI found new information about Crooks’ background and history that had not previously been known and provided it to the Senate.
“As far as the president's frustration with the FBI, I was there with him. I lived it. I mean, you have a situation where it's not really clear what the leadership of the FBI was doing in the weeks and months ahead of the attempted assassination to protect President Trump,” he said.
Blanche continued: “That's the same organization that was simultaneously trying to put him in prison until he dies. So, his frustration and concern about what the former director was doing is something that is not new,” Blanche added.
“Director Patel has undertaken a Herculean effort to go through all the documents and understand what was missed, if anything, and to provide anything that hadn't come forward to the American people to the American people, and that's what he's done,” he said.
