TLC’s Chili Clarifies Her Political Affiliation After President Donald Trump Donation Controversy

Legendary TLC member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas is clarifying her political affiliation after FEC records reportedly showed that the singer donated $1,000 to President Donald Trump and other Republican-linked organizations.
“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” Thomas, 55, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, March 28. “I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print. I thought I was supporting causes against human trafficking and for veterans.”
The 90s singer continued, “Two things I care deeply about as my dad is a veteran and everyone knows I love children. I have learned a valuable lesson and ask for grace as I navigate this.”
According to FEC records reviewed and obtained by The Independent in a report published on Saturday, March 28, the “No Scrubs” singer allegedly donated $210.60 to WinRed, a Republican campaign donation payment processing company, $340.60 to the Trump National Committee JFC and $486.54 to political fundraising group Never Surrender Inc., also linked to Trump.

Thomas also shared an accompanying video, further explaining her political affiliations after she reposted a debunked, transphobic claim about former first lady Michelle Obama.
“I wanted to come on here to address a few things that are circulating on the internet that are very concerning to me,” the singer said. “Let me say this first: I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama and I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful to her or to any woman — I would never do that.”
She continued, “I had no clue that this repost had happened until I started getting phone calls and text messages from everybody and I immediately went to my page to see what was going on. Mind you I’m not very computer savvy so I’m looking for this repost button and I see that all of them, all of the buttons are very very close together and clearly I was scrolling and I hit the repost button. Again, I had no clue something like this happened until I got all the calls.”
The singer previously shared a social media post spreading a conspiracy theory claiming that Obama, 62, registered as a male in Illinois in 1994. The claim has been debunked repeatedly.

“I took that down, and you know, I would never post anything like that — I would never do something like that,” Thomas continued in her Saturday post. “That is not my character. I have supported the Obamas. I gave to the campaign, both runs – voted for him twice and supported the organization that Michelle had in the schools for exercise for the kids. I wouldn’t do anything that’s harmful or hateful to anybody, you know? I’m just not wired like that. That is just not who I am.”
She continued, “When it comes to organizations that I have donated to, these things that support the veterans — I have always supported them. Not just now but for years — this is not something new.”
