After some early reports, director Matt Reeves has officially confirmed the cast for *The Batman Part II*.
Those who've followed Reeves on social media know that GIFs are among his preferred methods for teasing the stars of his movies. Starting Wednesday, the filmmaker began posting a series of social media blasts to confirm the returning vets from 2022's *The Batman,* as well as its sequel's newcomers.
** previously reported that two Marvel alumni, Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, were circling roles in the sequel. Stan was even featured in an Instagram video amid his training for the role of Harvey Dent, the future Batman baddie Two-Face.
Reeves officially confirmed Johansson's casting in a post on Thursday.

Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon in 'The Batman'.

Rejoining Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman are Jeffrey Wright as Gotham PD's Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Bruce's butler/father figure Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/the Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Gotham City Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. All were officially confirmed through individual posts on X/Twitter by Reeves.
Some likened the reveals to the rollout of *Avengers: Doomsday*; Marvel revealed the first cast for that event film with closeups of individual chairs labeled with the actors' names. But this is a very Reeves move, and it came with individually wrapped notes for each.

*The Batman Part II* will soon start filming with a planned release for Oct. 1, 2027. Reeves has been giving hints to the story through interviews and on social media.
Earlier this month, he posted test shots of the Batmobile driving through a snowy setting. The caption read, "#SnowTires." This was followed by another test shot of an explosion and the note, "Just over here having a little fun…"

Reeves wrote the script with fellow scribe Mattson Tomlin (*Terminator: Zero*), and the director has already teased that the prime villain has "never really been done in a movie before."
Story details are still trickling in, but the creative team also confirmed that HBO's *The Penguin* drama acts as "the bridge between the two films," *The Batman* and *The Batman Part II*. Showrunner Lauren LeFranc told EW, "We're going almost directly into the second film Matt has planned."
As for the cliffhanger to *The Penguin* season 1 finale, Reeves said, "We're kind of flicking you at the end to say the story's not over. The idea that Oz and these characters could be on a collision course at some point with Batman, that's of course out there. So we wanted to leave you with a sense of that, without overshadowing that this is really the completion of the story."
