Simu Liu Details His ‘Perfect’ Wedding to Allison Hsu: ‘I Was Overwhelmed with Emotion’

Simu Liu and Allison Hsu got married in Provence the weekend of Oct. 3 after nearly four years together

The actor opened up about his nuptials in an Oct. 13 interview with Vogue, describing the ceremony as “perfect”

Liu said that he felt his late grandparents’ presence when rain cleared just before the evening ceremony

Simu Liu and Allison Hsu are sharing the dreamiest details about their wedding.

The Marvel movie star, 37, and the vice president of digital marketing at Interscope Records tied the knot in France the weekend of Oct. 3 after nearly four years together and opened up to Vogue about their big day in an interview published on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about how perfect everything was,” Liu told the outlet of their wedding ceremony, which was held at Château d’Estoublon in Provence.

“Our friends and guests looked absolutely beautiful, and then the moment Allison stood at the top of the aisle, I was overwhelmed with emotion looking at my life partner,” he continued.

Hsu honored her heritage in a dress by Nicole + Felicia, the label founded by Taiwanese sisters Nicole and Felicia Chang.

Her parents were born and raised in Taiwan and met there while still in college.

The Copenhagen Test actor chose the Asian-Canadian-founded Garrison Bespoke for his wedding day look, paired with one of his favorite Versace jackets.

Prior to their evening ceremony, it had rained off and on. As soon as the event commenced, the sky cleared, a moment that Liu viewed as particularly special.

“The rainfall just before our ceremony was the most convinced I have ever been that something greater exists beyond our comprehension,” Liu said.

He added that his grandparents, who passed from COVID in 2021, had been on his mind a lot lately. He shared that he’d always felt “deeply connected” to his grandparents, who raised him in China until he was four-and-a-half years old.

“Just before the ceremony began, it drizzled as my parents took their seats,” he said. “It seemed so coincidental, the timing and the gentle droplets, as if someone was sending reassurance that they were watching. Even as I think back to this moment, it defies my sense of rationality and logic. A part of me believes they were with us. I hadn’t originally written them into my vows, but I felt compelled to tell Allison that I believed Yeye and Nainai [his grandparents] would have loved meeting her.”

The couple’s wedding day, which featured a reading of Rev. Daniel Harris’ “Blessing of the Hands” from Woody Harrelson, isn’t the only time that Liu and Hsu have had a little serendipity in their relationship.

When Liu first met Hsu at a mutual friend’s Fourth of July barbecue in 2022, he knew it was something special.

“Simu likes to say ‘God, bless America,’” she joked of their meet-cute.

Years later, the couple shared their first dance as husband and wife to a rendition of Etta James’s “At Last” performed by their friend Reneé Rapp.

“Looking back, we’re just so overwhelmed with gratitude,” Hsu said, later adding, “We continue to be moved by the amount of time, energy, and coordination that our destination wedding required of everyone involved. And we just feel unbelievably lucky as we continue to reflect on the weekend’s celebrations and every precious memory it created.”
