Sienna Miller is synonymous with the boho-chic fashion of the early 2000s – whether that’s low-slung coin belts or pirate boots. Yet it was from the 1990s that she drew inspiration for her latest red carpet look, digging out a dress from Emanuel Ungaro’s 1992 haute couture collection for the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Madden.
The 44-year-old actress looked striking in the pale-pink mini dress, which featured a strapless cut and ruffled hemline, not to mention an intricately swirled bow at the back. And while the Nineties-tastic party dress could have looked a little like fancy dress, Miller managed to style it in a way that made it look refreshingly modern and cool – wearing it with pared-back sandals in a similar colour, which were custom-made by Jimmy Choo.

She also kept her jewellery simple, wearing only her engagement ring from long-term boyfriend Oli Green and earrings by Cartier – a cluster-diamond style that added a punky edge to her look, in contrast to all the frou-frou of the bow and ruffles.
Meanwhile, she kept her hair and beauty look romantic and pretty, with a messy ponytail with a few tendrils framing her face (the ultimate Nineties look) and rose-coloured cheeks and lips. Those in the know will be unsurprised that her beauty look was the work of the most popular make-up artist of the moment, Nina Park, whose other clients include actresses Mia Goth, Emma Stone and Greta Lee.

The dress was the brainchild of styling duo Kate Foley and Alexandra Cronan of Studio&, whose other clients include Kate Moss, Edie Campbell and Adwoa Aboah. The pair have been working with Miller a lot recently, specifically for the promo run for her new legal-drama series, War.
For the London premiere, the pair dressed her in a black feathered full-length gown by Dilara Findikoglu, one of the city’s most promising up-and-coming designers. A few days later, she wore a corseted black mini dress with ostrich-feather detailing from Erdem for the New York premiere of the show. It had only debuted on the London Fashion Week catwalk two days before.

During her boho-chic era in the 2000s, Miller was famous for not working with a stylist, crafting a look that was entirely her own. More recently, she has occasionally worked with Kate Young, whose other clients include Dakota Johnson, Rachel Weisz and Selena Gomez, specifically on big moments like the Golden Globes.
With more than a few Nineties-era party dresses still knocking around in our wardrobes, the upcoming festive season might be the perfect time to get them out of retirement. Be sure to let the dress be the focal point of your look by choosing minimal accessories and opting for a simple hair and make-up look, but don’t be afraid to toughen up a pretty hue like Miller’s pastel pink with a leather jacket or jewellery.
Not quite brave enough to go no-tights? Channel Kate Moss, who recently stepped out in a pair of super-sheer black stockings for a night on the tiles in Paris. Just remember: if you’re wearing tights, don’t go for an open-toed shoe – it’s the equivalent of socks with sandals.
