Sara Bareilles learned a lot on the road with Maroon 5.
The "Brave" singer-songwriter, 46, got to know some of Maroon 5's members while attending UCLA when the band was called Kara's Flowers, and they've since toured together multiple times. In a new Rolling Stone interview, Bareilles opened up about their shared time on the road.
"Oh, my god, it was crazy. I saw cocaine for the first time," recalled the two-time Grammy winner, who said she saw the drug in a "bathroom at a party" but specified it did "not even belong to the band."

"This was just one of those things where we’re out," added Bareilles. "And I was like, 'Oh, my God, that’s cocaine!' Couldn’t believe it."
She then insisted, "Still never done cocaine, guys. I don’t do drugs, except with therapists."
The "Love Song" musician, who attended UCLA at the same time as former Maroon 5 members Ryan Dusick and Mickey Madden, said the band's "boys were so wonderful to us" during their time touring together. "They felt like big brothers. They took me and my band on the road. They took us under their wing. They shared everything they had," she explained. "It was really awesome."

Bareilles then shared another memory from touring with Maroon 5. "I could not get over seeing all the girls. There was literally a lot of throwing underwear," she noted.
"I was like, 'I thought this was like a trope that happened,' but it’s real. They just throw their underwear," she said. "'Did you bring two pairs?' is the first thing I think about. Because if you’re wearing a skirt and you sit down on a surface, your vagina is touching the chair. This is where my mind goes."

In addition to playing shows together before they got famous, Bareilles toured with Maroon 5 on the band's 2008 It Won't Be Soon Before Long Tour as well as their 2012 Hands All Over Tour.
"Those boys changed the trajectory of my life in a big way, and yeah, I'm forever grateful," the "I Choose You" performer told CBS News in a 2014 interview.
Bareilles is currently gearing up to release her first new album in seven years, Good Grief, on Friday, Aug. 28. She'll embark on a North American tour to support the album in September.
