Prince William visited Nansledan in Cornwall to see first-hand the progress of the growing sustainable community being developed by the Duchy of Cornwall.

During his visit on Thursday, May, 21, William, who is known as the Duke of Cornwall, while in the area, toured plans for Nansledan’s forthcoming Market Street development, a major project that is set to become one of the first newly built high streets of its kind in more than a century.

Scheduled for completion in 2028, the development will provide commercial space for local artisans, independent businesses and community enterprises.

Market Street marks another significant milestone in the continued expansion of Nansledan, which has already grown into a thriving mixed-use community. The development currently includes around 900 homes, a primary school, office space, a community centre and more than 40 local businesses.

The project also places a strong emphasis on green space and environmental sustainability. Residents have access to a range of outdoor amenities including wildflower meadows, parkland, orchards, wetlands, ponds, community allotments, play areas and a skatepark.

As part of the visit, the Prince of Wales stopped at Nansledan’s first Build-to-Rent homes, where he met residents and heard about their experiences living in the development.

Following his visit to Nansledan, William will go to St. Mary’s on Friday, May 22, aboard new pilot boat John Guy, a vessel funded by the Duchy and named after a longtime Duchy colleague.

He’ll then visit the Isles of Scilly Hospital, where he’s scheduled to meet staff and patients as part of opening a new extension to increase healthcare across the island in a project funded by the Duchy.

William plans to tour the nearly completed 10 sustainable homes being built to help ease housing shortage.

As part of the project, homes will be given to longtime island residents and people working locally. They include solar panels, electric car charging access with residents expecting to move in the winter of 2026.

The visits come after reports said William is planning to sell around 20% of the estate over the next decade to help fund new housing, environmental and renewable energy projects. The sale could raise an estimated $670 million, according to The Times.

William took control of the Duchy — the sprawling estate created in 1337 to provide income for the heir to the throne — after King Charles became monarch in 2022.

He headed right back to work on Thursday after a quick trip to Turkey to watch his go-to soccer team, Aston Villa, clinch the win in the 2026 Europa League final on May 20.
