*Outlander* fans might want to travel back in time to when the series began in 2014 now that the end is near.

The eighth and final season of the calendar-hopping romance will drop on March 6, 2026, Starz announced Monday.

The Emmy-nominated series, which wrapped up its seventh season in January, follows the epic love story between heroine Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), a World War II nurse that travels back in time, and actor Sam Heughan's Jamie Fraser, a warrior in 18th century Scotland.

"As Season Eight begins," the network teases in a press release, "Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser's Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together."

It continues, "While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun."

*Outlander*'s showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts explained his team's approach to season 8 during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

"The idea for the last season was to not try to top everything we've done," Roberts said. "But to just do a really good season of *Outlander* and just make it work, make the story work and give the characters time to do what they do well — they love, they spend time together, they face conflict. Instead of trying to make it something it wasn't, just to do *Outlander*."

Actress Sophie Skelton, who portrays Jamie and Claire's daughter, Brianna, noted at the event that the last batch of episodes of the show, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's books of the same name, promises to be unpredictable.

"One thing that is beautiful about this season is that we've surpassed the books at this point," Skelton said. "The writers have done such an incredible job of keeping that nostalgia but just injecting some stuff that you don't expect. So the main thing is, you've got to be prepared to be unprepared."

The final season of *Outlander* premieres March 6 on Starz.**
