Tom Brady allegedly made a subtle dig at his ex Gisele Bündchen in a cryptic Instagram post, a new biography about the athlete claims.
He posted a photo with a football captioned “true love” one month after Bündchen gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Joaquim Valente.
Brady and Bündchen had reportedly split in part because the Super Bowl champion refused to prioritize his family over football.
Tom Brady apparently did not take well to Gisele Bündchen growing her family.
Lars Anderson’s new biography about the former New England Patriots quarterback, titled Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, alleges that Brady publicly made a subtle dig at Bündchen after she gave birth to her third child, which was her first with boyfriend Joaquim Valente.
Following her divorce from Brady in 2022, Bündchen began dating Valente in July of the following year. The two welcomed their baby in February 2025, which Brady’s friends claim the athlete was “stung” by.
“Just over a month after the birth, Brady shared a photo of himself on Instagram — his preferred form of mass (and often cryptic) communication,” an excerpt from Brady published in the Daily Mail reads. “In the color photograph, Brady’s right arm is extended and a ball has spiraled out of his hand, silhouetted by the sunset’s golden glow. Underneath, Brady wrote: ‘True Love.’”
And that caption was not just a nod to his love of football. It was apparently also a reference to a recurring argument he had with Bündchen before their divorce, which was that he refused to quit the game to prioritize their family.
“To those who knew him well, there was no ambiguity,” the book said of the Instagram post. “As one friend described it, that was ‘the softest middle finger.’”

Entertainment Weekly reached out to representatives for Brady and Bündchen for comment.

Brady and Bündchen divorced in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage. They share Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13. Brady also shares Jack, 19, with ex Bridget Moynahan, with whom Bündchen also shares a close relationship.
In addition to their conflict about football, the new bookalleges that Bündchen had been influenced by astrology when deciding to end their marriage.
“Then one day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible,’” a source close to Brady told author Anderson. “And just like that, she was done.”
Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness will be released on Sept. 29.
