There’s a new girl group raising hell. The first candy-colored trailer for Forbidden Fruitshas dropped, teasing a gang of retail workers who are giving both the mean girl clique from Heathers and the witchy teens of The Craft a run for their money.

Forbidden Fruits stars Lola Tung as Pumpkin, a mall pretzel stand employee who becomes enamored with the beautiful, stylish trio of employees at the boutique shop Free Eden: Apple (Lili Reinhart), Fig (Alexandra Shipp) and Cherry (Victoria Pedretti). At the intense, magnetic ringleader Apple’s invitation, Pumpkin is drawn into their after-hours practices, which include ceremonies with bedazzled boots and witchcraft.

ā€œBeing a witch is being a sister,ā€ Apple tells Pumpkin in the trailer. ā€œAnd we must protect our sisterhood by any means necessary. Rip out the weeds, throw out the snakes.ā€

That’s all well and good, of course, until Cherry is seen getting handsy with some guy in the dressing room — and warns Pumpkin not to say anything to Apple. Could this sisterhood be cracking?! The answer is absolutely, given the chaotic clips at the end of the trailer, which reveal someone lying in a pool of blood.

Here’s what to know about the upcoming movie.

What is ā€˜Forbidden Fruits’ about?

The official description of the movie is:

ā€œFree Eden employee Apple secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours — with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.ā€

Forbidden Fruits is based on the stage play Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin and Through Her We All Die, written by Lily Houghton, who cowrote the film script with director Meredith Alloway. Diablo Cody, who wrote the cult horror movie Jennifer’s Body and, more recently, the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, is producing the film.

The script for Forbidden Fruits was featured on the 2023 Blacklist, the industry’s list of most-liked unproduced screenplays of the year.

Who stars in ā€˜Forbidden Fruits’? What do we know about their roles?

Tung, known for her work in The Summer I Turned Pretty, stars as Pumpkin, who is initially on the outside of the witchy trio. The hot girl gang is reminiscent of similar girl groups from movies past, such as the trios in 1989’s Heathers, 1999’s Jawbreaker and even 2004’s Mean Girls.

Reinhart, known best for her work as Betty Cooper on Riverdale and recently the Mubi series Hal & Harper, plays the alpha of the group.

ā€œIt felt like an homage to early 2000s classic movies that you don’t see anymore,ā€ Reinhart told Teen Vogue in November 2025 of the film. ā€œI also have never played anyone like Apple, and I couldn’t get the idea of embodying her out of my head.ā€

Anyone But You and Tragedy Girls star Shipp plays Apple’s bestie, Fig, whom Shipp told Teen Vogue was both ā€œsmartā€ and ā€œcodependent.ā€ You and The Haunting of Bly Manor alum Pedretti rounds out the group as the anxious Cherry, and told she Teen Vogue she was drawn to the script due to its message about the ā€œcomplete destruction of yourself in exchange for the illusion of belonging.ā€

Outside of the Free Eden girls, Forbidden Fruits features Gabrielle Union and influencer Emma Chamberlain, marking her first live-action film role. Chamberlain is seen briefly in the trailer and plays a character known as ā€œPickle.ā€
