Netflix viewers are headed back to *Sullivan’s Crossing*…without Sullivan.

News broke earlier this year that Scott Patterson had exited the CW drama after his character, Harry "Sully" Sullivan, left with Helen (Kate Vernon) on a trip to Ireland at the end of season 3.

"We all knew that it was going to change things and that the audience would definitely have a reaction to that," star Morgan Kohan tells *. *"But I really do think no matter what, when there's going to be such a big change in a show that's so loved in the way that it is, it does open up so many new opportunities. And I love so many of the characters that we get to bring in this season."

Kohan plays Maggie in the drama series, which follows her character reconnecting with her estranged father, Sully, in his rural small town in Nova Scotia.

"It shifts things for Maggie," Kohan continues. "It changes her sense of grounding at the Crossing, too, and who she goes to for guidance. It shakes things up in a nice way."

Fans will still get off-camera updates and references to the titular character.

"It's not like [he] was just going to be never acknowledged again because Sully is such a presence," Kohan says.

Patterson and showrunner Roma Roth have shared different reasons for his departure, with Roth saying in March that Sully was just "beginning a new chapter in his life" with Helen. "While he isn’t physically present in this season, the character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative," she said in a statement.

Patterson, however, made it seem like it was a behind-the-scenes decision versus a story arc, previously saying, in part: "The creative differences were becoming untenable, and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue."

*Sullivan’s Crossing* airs both in Canada on CTV and on the CW in the U.S. before it starts streaming on Netflix, where it has its largest audience. Season 4 dropped on the streamer on Tuesday.

"It's fun because I get to live people's journey through the season a couple of times because it does Canada first, and then it does Netflix in the States. It's a continual rolling thing," Kohan tells EW.

She notes that the audience has "definitely become way more vocal this season."

"Which is a good thing," she says. "It just means people are invested and care, which is incredible. But I've definitely had to shy away from reading some of those comments as you do. But I don't think anything surprised me. It's just more the vigor behind some of it."

Season 4 of *Sullivan's Crossing* is now streaming on Netflix.
