After Martha Stewart took a dig at Meghan Markle and her cooking career in her People interview, the Duchess of Sussex made an unusual move. In a recent video shared by Markle, the 45-year-old promoted using her As Ever fruit spread in buttercream to ice the cake.
However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed how Markle’s idea of using a fruit spread for icing was allegedly borrowed from Stewart. Before the 45-year-old shared the video, Stewart had advised her followers to use a similar recipe for a three-layer summer berry cake.
Meghan Markle Accused of Plagiarizing Martha Stewart’s Recipe
Sharing a video on social media, Meghan Markle showed her followers how to add blackberry fruit spread to buttercream icing for a “sweet way to savor the season.”
In the video, the Duchess showed As Ever’s Instagram followers how fruit spread can be drizzled through yellow cake batter, then baked, and later used in frosting.
“Blackberry Loaf with Blackberry Buttercream Frosting, made with our Blackberry Spread,” Markle captioned her video on the As Ever official Instagram page. Meanwhile, a similar recipe was previously popularized by Martha Stewart. In an old video, Stewart used 1 1/2 cups of black raspberry jam in a Swiss buttercream frosting.
She used the recipe for her original three-layer summer berry cake. After people noticed the similarity, netizens began accusing Markle of plagiarism.
People called out the Duchess in the comments, saying, “Stolen idea from Martha Stewart,” while another called her out for “using Martha Stewart shortcut to berry buttercream frosting.”
A third user added, “I’ll rather buy a different brand and make the original recipe from #marthastewart that #meghanmarkle from.”

Some netizens even jabbed, “Apparently another copy of Martha,” while others added, “And she just got called out for copying Martha Stewart’s recipe.”
Stewart Took a Dig at Markle’s Career Graph
Before Markle was accused of copying Martha Stewart’s recipe, Meghan Markle was criticized by the 85-year-old television personality during an interview with People.
Shortly after Markle returned from the U.K., reportedly having reconciled with King Charles III, Stewart told the outlet that the Duchess had been talking about it.
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California, and she had just gotten back from the palace,” Stewart shared.
She added, “I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it.” Further, when asked about her opinion on Markle’s career, Stewart mocked her, saying: “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”
