A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Antoine de Massy, who was found dead in a Monaco park on Sunday.

Massy is the second cousin of Prince Albert of Monaco

The unidentified suspect was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger, according to local media reports

A 42-year-old man was charged Wednesday in connection with the death of Antoine de Massy, Prince Albert of Monaco’s second cousin, according to local reports.

Monaco Life, the Monaco Daily News, and local newspaper Monaco-Matin reported Wednesday that the Ukrainian national, who has been living in the country for the last 30 years, has officially been charged in connection with Massy’s death.

The unidentified suspect was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger, the outlets reported. The charges do not, however, indicate Massy was killed intentionally, according to Monaco Life.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Directorate of Judicial Services in Monaco for more information.

Monaco Attorney General Stéphane Thibault confirmed with local media that the 42-year-old man was brought before a judge on Wednesday. Thibault told Monaco Life that he remains in custody after denying the charges and refusing to answer the judge’s questions in court.

Massy, the grandson of Princess Antoinette (the elder sister of Albert’s father, Prince Rainier III), was found dead on Sunday, Oct. 25 in a park alongside the Boulevard du Larvotto, near the Villa Sauber museum in Monaco after an alleged fall. He was 29 years old.

Thibault told Monaco Life that the inquiry into Massy’s death will aim to determine “the precise sequence of events that led to Antoine de Massy’s fall.” Thibault reportedly did not elaborate on what alleged action, or inaction, the 42-year-old suspect is accused of taking in relation to Massy’s death.

According to Monaco Life, the suspect was taken into custody Monday morning after investigators determined he had approached Massy at the park the day he died. According to the outlet, Massy’s family called police after failing to get in contact with him, prompting a search that eventually led investigators to Massy’s body in the park.

Prince Albert, 68, and his wife, Princess Charlène, 48, acknowledged Massy’s death in a statement from the Prince’s Palace on Monday, PEOPLE previously reported.

“Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène were saddened to learn of the death of Antoine de Massy, aged 29, the grandson of Princess Antoinette, the elder sister of Prince Rainier III,” their statement read.

“A keen tennis player, he was part of a family history closely linked to the sport in the Principality,” their statement continued. “Their Highnesses share in the grief of his family and loved ones and offer them their sincere condolences at this painful time.”

Massy was the son of Baron Christian de Massy and Cécile Gelabale. He followed in the footsteps of his paternal grandfather, Alexandre-Athenase Noghes, an international tennis player, and hoped to represent Monaco in tennis at the Olympics.

He was linked to Prince Albert through shared great-grandparents, Prince Pierre and Princess Charlotte, the parents of Princess Antoinette and Prince Rainer III.
