Lil Uzi Vert has accused rehab facility Oro House Recovery Centers and one of its employees of unlawful recording and dissemination of their confidential and private treatment sessions.
The rapper, who uses they/them pronouns, initially filed against Oro House Recovery Centers' Acadia Malibu, employee Lynn Tumpa, and her nephew, a minor, in June 2024, accusing the latter two of recording the rapper without their consent and releasing the recording, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE. The alleged act violates both federal and state law and the company's policies, procedures and obligations.
The "Bad and Boujee" rapper (born Symere Bysil Woods) entered rehab in February 2022 and worked toward their sobriety over the course of several months. During their stay, they participated in weekly group and individual therapy. Tumpa allegedly "secretly and illegally recorded a segment of her session with Woods," per the filing. Tumpa then allegedly shared the illegal recording with her teenage nephew, and the recording later circulated on X in February 2024 and on Instagram in April 2024. It remains unclear who shared the recording, but the rapper's attorneys allege "Tumpa was the source and disseminated the Video online, either directly or indirectly."
Woods' legal team accused Oro Recovery of breach of contract and negligent hiring, supervision, and/or retention. Oro Recovery and Tumpa were accused of breach of confidentiality under the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, intrusion into private affairs and violation of the invasion of privacy statute for the illegal recording of confidential communications.
Tumpa was accused of breach of fiduciary duty. Tumpa, her nephew, and Oro Recovery were also all accused of intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and invasion of privacy by public disclosure of private facts.

Woods' deposition has yet to take place. On June 23, Los Angeles County Court declined to compel Woods to be deposed in California, as the defendants' legal team requested. In a June 9 filing, Woods said they were willing to be deposed in New York, where they live, or via videoconference.

"The court may not order Plaintiff, a non-resident of California, to be deposed within California. Instead, a non-resident party may be compelled to attend a deposition within the United States and within 75 miles of the residence or a business office of a deponent," Los Angeles County court said in a June 23 document. The court did decline to issue monetary sanctions, though, writing, "Plaintiff notices no sanctions and provides no evidence of attorneys' fees expended on this opposition."
“The Court reached the right decision here," Woods' attorney, David Moreno, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "We look forward to taking this case to trial.”
