A couple of years ago, Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, named and shamed the luxury designers that refused to work with her at the start of her career.

Variety / Getty ImagesSpeaking candidly on the Cutting Room Floor podcast in May 2024, Law — who has been styling Zendaya since she was 14 — revealed that Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, and Valentino turned him down when he tried to source outfits for her before she shot to superstardom.

“I would write [to] the big five…and they would all say no. ‘Try again next year,’ ‘she’s too green,’ ‘she’s not on our calendar,’” he recalled being told, adding that he then refused to dress Zendaya in any of those designers after she blew up, aside from in editorial shoots.

Never,” he said. “The first time she wore Valentino in public is when she had a contract, so when I said, ‘If you say no, it’ll be a no forever,’ that rang true for a long, long time.”

Fast forward to now, and Law was asked about his “unofficial red carpet boycott” against the aforementioned luxury brands during a recent appearance on Ziwe Fumudoh’s You’d Be an Iconic Guest podcast.

Taylor Hill / Getty Images“You have an unofficial red carpet boycott on Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel and Gucci because they said no to dressing Zendaya when you first started out,” said Ziwe, prompting Law to reveal that he’s partly “outgrown” his pettiness when it comes to holding grudges.

“I think that there is an importance of being petty, but I’ve outgrown my pettiness. I think that holding grudges makes you ugly, so in my quest to become more beautiful, I’ve released some of the grudges that I held,” he said, adding, “And I’m actually wearing Saint Laurent right now.”
