‘Just Hand Him Over,’ ‘I’m Tired of All These Reports’ — Chiefs Fans Frustrated by GM Brett Veach’s Lack of Initiative on Brian Thomas Jr. Trade

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to give their receiving corps a boost midway through the season, and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has emerged as a potential target. But while the rumors continue to swirl, general manager Brett Veach has yet to give any clear indication that a deal with Jacksonville is close.

With the Nov. 10 trade deadline creeping up, Chiefs fans are running out of patience. They want Veach to stop weighing his options and turn the team’s reported interest in available receivers into an actual move.

Chiefs Fans Grow Impatient With Brett Veach Over Brian Thomas Jr. Trade

Kansas City can’t afford to wait too long to address its receiving concerns. Patrick Mahomes continues to rally the offense, but inconsistent production from the unit has made his job increasingly difficult. The Chiefs rank No. 8 with a PFN Offense Impact Score of 81.2 and are coming off back-to-back losses.

With the season at risk of slipping away, fans naturally want the front office to give Mahomes more help before the deadline. However, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently reported that Jacksonville has shown little willingness to trade Thomas, despite Kansas City’s reported interest.

That leaves the Chiefs with a narrow window to make something happen, and fans are growing frustrated with what they see as a lack of urgency from Veach.

One KC supporter made the feeling clear in a brief message to Jacksonville. “Just hand him over, Jaguars,” they wrote, tagging Jacksonville’s social media handle.

“Chiefs showed interest in [insert good player] but couldn’t get a deal done is a yearly occurrence,” one fan quipped.

“Just get him, man. I’m tired of all these reports,” a third fan wrote.

“Just give them [Xavier] Worthy so they can keep up their illusion of ‘having a deep ball threat’,” a fan chimed in.

“Veach is gonna drop the ball,” a user remarked.

However, not every Chiefs fan believes Thomas would be a good fit in Kansas City. Some question whether his playing style suits Reid’s offense or Mahomes’ preferences at receiver.

“I honestly think this is the worst move at WR the Chiefs could make. I get it… He’s talented, and he’s that ‘traditional X’ that Chiefs Kingdom keeps talking about online. But his play style doesn’t fit Reid’s system or what we’ve seen Mahomes prefer in his WRs,” one fan commented.

The Jaguars selected Thomas with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he made an immediate impact as a rookie, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. His production dipped considerably last season, though, and his role has become even smaller in 2026.

Through Week 9, Thomas has just 10 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Still, Thomas’ ability to stretch the field could give Kansas City another dimension on offense. The bigger obstacle may be convincing Jacksonville to part with him, given the team’s reported reluctance to make a deal.

If the Jaguars remain unwilling to move Thomas, the Chiefs may have to look elsewhere. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has also surfaced in trade discussions and could become an alternative for Kansas City.

With the Nov. 10 deadline approaching, Veach doesn’t have much time to decide whether to keep pursuing Thomas, pivot to another target, or stick with the receivers already on the roster.
