For any Tenacious D fans hoping for a reunion soon, you'll sadly have to keep waiting.

Jack Black has made it officially clear that he has "no plans" on bringing the band back together as he prepares to join *Saturday Night Live*'s* *five-timers club this weekend.

TMZ caught up with the *Minecraft Movie *star in New York City on Thursday, where they asked Black about reuniting with bandmate Kyle Gass after the latter alluded to the duo getting back into the studio "soon." But Black told the outlet that they currently "don't have any plans," so fans will have to keep their picks of destiny stowed away for a little bit longer.

Tenacious D went on hiatus in July 2024, after Grass joked about the attempted assassination of then-former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump, while celebrating his birthday on stage at a concert in Sydney. After Black and the audience serenaded Gass with "Happy Birthday" as he turned 64, the *Nacho Libre* star asked his bandmate to "make a wish" as a man in a massive robot costume approached Gass with a candle-covered birthday cake.

Just before blowing out the candles, Gass jokingly said, "Don't miss Trump next time," prompting the audience and Black to erupt in laughter.

But criticism was quick to follow as the moment made news. Afterward, Black said that he had been "blindsided" by the comment and canceled their tour.

"I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," the *Tropic Thunder* star wrote on social media at the time. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

Meanwhile, Gass himself apologized, too.

Despite the rough patch, Grass has maintained that the group will return to the stage sooner rather than later. In an interview with *Rolling Stone* in January, the musician likened their working relationship to a marriage in which "you go through these ups and downs, and try to understand your partner."

We will serve no D-wine before it's D-time — but we will be back. We will return," he added.

Black has previously also said he believes that the comedy rock band will be back together at some point.

"We had to take a break, but I love the D and everybody takes a break sometime," he told *Entertainment Tonight* in August 2024. He vowed then that "we'll be back."
