It was a big night for "One Battle After Another" at the 98th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Paul Thomas Anderson's action dramedy with Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn took home six awards during the March 15 ceremony, including the night's biggest prize – best picture – beating "Sinners," "The Secret Agent," "Blue Moon, "Bugonia," "F1: The Movie," "Frankenstein," "Hamnet," "Marty Supreme," "Sentimental Value" and "Train Dreams."

"My heart is exploding," producer Sara Murphy had said while accepting the award, with Anderson adding, "We're just blessed to be part of this. Let's have a martini."

The film had earned 13 nods, the second most of the night after "Sinners."

Anderson's big-budget satire presents a mix of serious themes like political struggle, oppression and resistance with comedy. The film follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a former revolutionary and current stoner in ratty red robe, unkempt hair and oversized sunglasses, who has been surviving off the grid for 16 years with Willa (Infiniti), his spirited daughter with his long-ago captured partner Perfidia (Teyana Taylor).

"When his evil nemesis (Sean Penn) resurfaces after 16 years and she goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her, father and daughter both battling the consequences of his past," the film's synopsis says.

USA TODAY's Brian Truitt gave the film ★★½ out of four, writing "'One Battle' is a mixed bag compared to the rest of Anderson's impressive resume – not as wacky as 'Inherent Vice,' more engaging than 'Phantom Thread,' yet not at the top-notch level of 'The Master,' 'There Will Be Blood' and 'Licorice Pizza.'"

"It's full of big personalities and bigger ideas, though the execution isn't there to bring it all together," he added.
