*Gremlins 3 *will be the first franchise installment in 37 years; the first movie was directed by Joe Dante and became a pop-culture phenomenon, grossing $165 million worldwide. Although less successful, 1990's *Gremlins 2: The New Batch*, grossed $41 million and became a cult favorite for movie fans.
The franchise spawned comic-book tie-ins, as well as an animated prequel series on HBO Max that wrapped its second season earlier this year.

*Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai *takes a deeper look into the Mogwai mythology with the first season showing how 10-year-old Sam Wing (the future shop owner from the 1984 movie voiced by *Dìdi* star Izaac Wang) met young Gizmo in 1920s Shanghai. Season 2, titled *Gremlins: The Wild Batch,* is set in the American West as the pair join Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh). The trio make their first trip from Shanghai to San Francisco, coming face to face with colorful monsters and spirits of both good and evil from Chinese folklore.
Filmmaker Joe Dante, who directed both Gremlin movies, serves as consulting producer on the series.
While the series hasn't been renewed for a third installment yet, executive producer Brendan Hay previously told *The Hollywood Reporter *that they're hoping the fans can help make it happen.
"We are ready to go seasons three through 20 if needed," he added. "We have lots of more stories we would love to tell."**
