Ferris Bueller's Day Off star Ben Stein has been spotted in a rare public outing, with the veteran actor seen being pushed in a wheelchair by a care worker.
The 80-year-old, who became a Hollywood icon thanks to his role as Ferris Bueller's economics teacher in the 1986 comedy classic, was photographed seated in a wheelchair wearing a navy suit jacket, grey trousers, and beige slippers, before being helped into a car by the carer.
Ben delivered one of the film's most memorable scenes as the monotone teacher attempting to engage his bored students by repeatedly asking, "Anyone? Anyone?" This comes as one star of the movie reflected on it 40 years later.

The moment was made even more authentic because Ben, the son of an economist, had worked for the Federal Trade Commission before turning to acting.
Drawing on his own experience, he improvised the famous lecture about the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act.

Before finding fame on the big screen, Ben made a name for himself in politics. During the 1970s, he worked as an attorney and speechwriter for Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, while his father, Herbert Stein, served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
He later shot to Hollywood fame after landing the role in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which was directed by John Hughes. The comedy, which starred Matthew Broderick in the leading role, became one of the defining films of the 1980s.

Ben went on to enjoy a successful acting career, appearing in shows including The Wonder Years, as well as starring alongside Jim Carrey in another cult classic comedy, The Mask. He also became a familiar face on television as host of Win Ben Stein's Money, the Comedy Central quiz show he fronted from 1997 until 2003.
Ben has remained a prominent conservative commentator, writing for publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Newsmax. His political opinions have also sparked controversy over the years.

Earlier this year, he reunited with Ferris Bueller's Day Off co-star Alan Ruck at the TCM Classic Film Festival to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary. Speaking during the event, he recalled that he was still working as a professional teacher when director John Hughes cast him in the movie.
He explained how when he was asked to improvise his dialogue, he drew his inspiration from a lecture he had recently given on "monetary policy."

Speaking about filming the famous scene he revealed that after delivering the speech, he was asked, "How long did it take you to write that?" and he responded, "It just came right off the top of my head."
He also recalled how Matthew had approached him after the take and told him he was "really good" before asking if he had "ever done any stage acting, anything on Broadway," to which he replied, "It's the first time I've ever been in front of a camera."
