Ed Sheeran is opening up about whether he has hopes of welcoming a son.

During his appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the English singer and songwriter, 35, revealed to hosts Benny Blanco, Dave Burd, better known by his stage name Lil Dicky, and Burd's wife Kristin Batalucco if he's secretly hoping for a son after welcoming his two daughters, Jupiter, 3, and Lyra, 5.

"You know what? I don't know. I don't know," Sheeran responded. "I think, I think maybe I'd want another girl. I think. I don't know."

The "Shivers" singer and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, first became parents when they welcomed their first daughter, Lyra, in August 2020. Then, two years later, in May 2022, the artist announced that their family had expanded again with the birth of their second daughter, Jupiter.

Sheeran hasn't divulged many details about his children. However, he has been very open about how parenthood has impacted his perspective. In May 2024, the "Bad Habits" artist said that he's been playing the new music he's working on with Lyra and Jupiter, and so far, they're fans. He also shared that they don't have much of an opportunity to listen to his older music around the house.

“I feel it'd be quite weird to just put on my discography, so they mostly know the new songs that I'm working on because I play them quite a lot,” he told PEOPLE.

Last April, the "Photograph" singer sat down with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, and the two talked about everything from Sheeran's music career to his life as a girl dad of two. When discussing women taking their husband's last names in marriage, Sheeran revealed that while it's a practice he grew up with, his perception shifted when he married his wife. He then explained to the podcaster why it was important for his daughters to have both his and his wife's last names.

"That's how I grew up, though, because that's the only thing that I knew. My mom had my dad's name, and, you know, I come from a very large Irish Catholic family. Sheeran was the name," he told Cooper. "I think it wasn't until getting married and having daughters where your perception — it shifts."

"You can't just be born and just believe things. You have to kind of experience and be brought over," he continued. "Now, I very, very much believe that that should be the case — that you should obviously keep both identities when you have children."

Elsewhere in the podcast, the "Galway Girl" singer, who's known for having tattoos all over his body, opened up about his ink. Sheeran said that each of the tattoos have "all got stories, really."

"I think my left arm is my first five years of my career, and my right arm is kind of the next five years," Sheeran said. "And then I got my chest and back done, and my back is kind of like the most recent one. I got my kids' footprints the week that they were born, so I quite like that because they're tiny and obviously, they're a lot bigger now."

"My legs have actually started being my kids' drawing book," Sheeran sweetly explained. "So my daughter's just done a little bunny rabbit for my leg and you can put the date of it. It's quite nice seeing it."
