Domhnall Gleeson is standing up for his principles — in this case, denying his *About Time *costar Rachel McAdams her rightful place in Hollywood history.

"I'm pretty sure that anyone who has worked with Rachel McAdams, were they standing here today, would essentially be saying the same thing that I'm about to," Gleeson began his address from the podium at Tuesday's ceremony unveiling McAdams' star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Rachel, I don't think you deserve this," Gleeson declared. "And let me tell you why."

Gleeson and McAdams starred together in the 2013 romantic comedy-drama *About Time*, in which they played a couple whose unhappy marriage Gleeson attempted to improve by tinkering with the past via time travel. The pair have remained close since the film was released to modest box office success. But Gleeson drew upon a deeper history to winkingly deny McAdams the privilege of a monument in the heart of Hollywood.

"Life and more importantly Hollywood has taught me that you are not supposed to have it all," he joked to a smattering of relieved chuckles from his fellow ceremony attendees unsure of where he was taking his speech.

"It is not fair to be everyone's favorite person on set, and the best actor in the room. It is selfish of you to be a devoted mother of two, putting family above all else, and a huge movie star continually knocking it out of the park commercially and artistically. It's not okay to be a Hollywood star and a character actor, to be gifted at comedy and drama, to be unrestricted by genre or expectation, and to be the loveliest person I've ever met in my life," Gleeson continued.

The star of the new *Office *spinoff *The Paper *reasoned, "That's not how we do things. So yeah, I just don't think you deserve it."****

Gleeson then reminisced on his time working opposite McAdams on the film directed by *Notting Hill *helmer Richard Curtis.

"Thirteen years ago on *About Time*, Rachel acted so convincingly at me that for three full months I believed I could travel through time. You made me believe that we were happily married in a small town in England and that Bill Nighy was my father. That was irresponsible. It's your talent, I guess. But let me tell you, the comedown was brutal," he joked.

Gleeson was joined by McAdams' director and costar in the upcoming horror thriller *Send Help —* Sam Raimi and Dylan O'Brien.

McAdams and O'Brien star in the film as Linda Liddle and Bradley Preston, co-workers stranded on a remote island after a plane crash who must overcome past differences to survive.

"What I really love about this story is that it's an underdog tale at its core," Raimi told * *in an exclusive preview of the film in October. "Not only is it about survival on a deserted island, but it's also a story of female empowerment and transformation."**
