The Carolina Panthers' backfield can't seem to catch a break on the injury front. After Jonathon Brooks suffered a re-tear of his right ACL during the 2024 season, the same injury he suffered in 2023 at Texas, it's led to a pause in the hype surrounding the team's former second-round pick. However, he's been fully cleared ahead of the 2026 season, and on Thursday, the Panthers were dealt some bad news about Brooks' backfield mate, Chuba Hubbard.
As ESPN's Mike Kaye first reported, Panthers head coach Dave Canales revealed that Hubbard suffered a hamstring injury and will now be week-to-week moving forward.
Obviously, the good news is that Hubbard's injury doesn't sound too serious if he's week-to-week. However, hamstring injuries can be nagging, especially in the NFL, where the risk of re-injury is high if a player isn't 100% upon return.

The news of Hubbard's injury also brings another topic to the table: Jonathon Brooks' immediate fantasy football outlook. That could be a significant storyline as the Panthers head into preseason play and get ready for Week.

While fantasy football drafts are ramping up, at some point or another, there's a decent chance you'll find yourself in the great debate of Hubbard vs. Brooks if you're looking for a potential high-upside, low-risk running back. While USA Today Fantasy has Hubbard projected for roughly 740 yards and five rushing touchdowns this season, Brooks checked in at just under 690 yards and five rushing scores.
The two being so close in their current fantasy projections for the 2026 season is significant, especially given that this could swing the door open for Brooks to showcase his upside in the preseason and potentially even into the early weeks of the regular season.
