Chloe Kim is debunking a fake photo that appeared to show Myles Garrett proposing to her during the 2026 Winter Olympics

Kim learned about the viral image from fellow Olympian Lindsey Vonn, who mistakenly congratulated her on the engagement

Chloe Kim is setting the record straight about a photo that appeared to show her NFL star boyfriend Myles Garrett proposing to her at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.

During a Wednesday, Feb. 25, appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 25-year-old snowboarder addressed the fake photo, which began circulating during the Olympic Games and seemingly showed the Cleveland Browns’ defensive end, 30, popping the question.

"Don't fall for it, guys!" Kim told the Jimmy Kimmel crowd, as the host pulled out a hard copy of the photo, which he said was generated with Photoshop or artificial intelligence.

Kim explained that she found out about the fake photo — which quickly garnered attention online — from her fellow Olympian Lindsey Vonn, who suffered a crash during women’s downhill skiing event just a few days prior.

"I hope she doesn't get mad at me for sharing this, but she texts me," Kim recounted. "She's like, 'Oh my gosh, congrats.' And I'm like, 'Oh, thank you. But you already congratulated me for my medal.' "

"She's like, 'On the engagement,' " Kim continued. "I'm like, 'What?' And so, I Google 'Chloe Kim engagement' and I see this."

Thankfully, Kim's mom wasn't fooled, as she told Kimmel that her mother called to say that she saw "that A.I. picture."

"She was like, 'You would never wear something like that,' " Kim said.

The Olympian — who was already a two-time Olympic gold medalist heading into this year's games — pointed out some issues in the photo that made it clear that it wasn't real. For instance, Kim already had an engagement ring on her left ring finger as Garrett was "proposing."

"Two, he's wearing sunglasses," she joked. "I don't want my man to propose to me with sunglasses on."

The couple were first linked in May 2025 when they attended the Crunchyroll Anime Awards together in Japan. By November 2025, they had confirmed their relationship status, and she supported him as the Browns played the Las Vegas Raiders.

Considered one of history’s greatest female snowboarders, Kim first won Olympic gold at just 17 and has gone on to rule the sport with her fearless, seemingly effortless style — winning numerous World and X Games titles with her impressive tricks and her control of the snowboard.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist, who many believed was going to win a historic third this year in Livigno, instead overcame self-described burnout, mental health challenges and, in January, a dislocated shoulder and torn labrum to make it onto this year’s podium, where she won silver behind 17-year-old Choi Gaon of South Korea.

“I learned to adapt and find the silver lining,” she told PEOPLE. “I came out of this a lot stronger.”

After the competition, Kim reflected on how her family and boyfriend helped her by cheering her on — and rocking some custom T-shirts with her face on them. Garrett also wore a zip-up layer with a massive graphic of the snowboarder smiling from a prior Olympic Games under his winter coat in Milan.

"He's the best," Kim said of Garrett showing up for her on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, Feb. 24, before then speaking about his style statement alongside Snoop Dogg, who also wore a jacket with the athlete's face enlarged on its front.

"It's so fun that everyone came out for that," she continued. "It just made a really intense, stressful moment so light and kind of grounded me. Just to remind me why I'm here to begin with, and it's always been my support system, my family."

“Seeing them as happy as I was made my heart melt,” she added to PEOPLE of her family's celebration after the competition. “We had dinner and a little celebratory champagne, then my mom [Boran Yun Kim] and I played video games.”
