CBS Mornings are about to look a whole lot different. As the network continues to shake things up, CBS Mornings’ Executive Producer will leave at the end of March. So, what’s going on behind the scenes at one of America’s most beloved news shows?
Shawna Thomas will leave CBS News at the end of the month
According to an insider who spoke to The Wrap, executive producer Shawna Thomas will leave CBS News this month. The change comes following news that CBS Mornings icon Gayle King had reached a deal to stay on when her current contract expires in May. Recently, there has been speculation about her future at the network, especially given reports that CBS Mornings’ Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss is intent on an overhaul.
“This isn’t THE GREAT GOODBYE NOTE,” Shawna told staff in a memo on Thursday, per the source. “But you should know I’ve been thinking about this for a while and, frankly, I’m tired y’all.”
Shawna has been the executive producer at CBS Mornings since 2021. Per her departure memo, she said she had “tried to make this show something she and everybody on this team want to be a part of. Want to watch. Want to learn from.”

“In return, this team has made me more thoughtful, empathetic and expanded my personal definition of storytelling,” she continued. “I’ve had the privilege of helping to make 10 (now 12!) hours of television each week that goes out free to people everywhere.”
Commenting on the change, CBS News President Tom Cibrowski said Shawna brought “energy, clarity, and heart” to the show. “We will certainly miss her smart and reasoned voice at our morning meeting.”
As for who will replace Shawna, it’s understood that CBS Mornings’ senior broadcast producer Jon Tower will take on the interim role.
