Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers will serve as groomsmen for friend Joel Kim Booster's wedding to fiancé John-Michael Sudsina

The duo tells PEOPLE the ceremony is "a very, very special thing"

Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers could not be anymore excited for Joel Kim Booster's upcoming wedding to fiancé John-Michael Sudsina. But the Las Culturistas podcast hosts admit there's at least one thing — or maybe two — they're not prepared for when it comes to the "very special" moment in their friend's life.

"I'll tell you what we're not excited about — which we haven't even thought about — is that we're supposed to give a joint toast," Rogers, 35, tells PEOPLE about the responsibilities he and the Saturday Night Live star, also 35, have been tasked with as groomsmen.

In June, Booster, 37, revealed to PEOPLE that his wedding with Sudsina will take place in San Francisco — the city where the two had their first date — on "New Year's, this year."

The Fire Island writer and star also confirmed that his two friends had a role in the ceremony as well as the reception, saying, "They will be giving a joint toast, actually. And I set them off on that project and I have no idea what it will be, but I'm sure it will be insane either way."

Speaking with PEOPLE on Monday, Nov. 10, ahead of the launch of their holiday gift guide campaign with Marshalls, Rogers says that there's still work to be done on that task. "That is something that's on our list now."

Beyond that, the "Have You Heard of Christmas?" singer says, "We are thrilled for Joel."

In fact, the night before, Rogers showed his new boyfriend Fire Island for the first time. Adapted from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the 2022 queer rom-com follows a group of friends on vacation at the Long Island destination as Noah (Booster) navigates complicated feelings with a stranger named Will (Conrad Ricamora). Yang and Rogers costar as two other friends, Howie and Luke, respectively, who also have romantic encounters on the trip.

"We watched it last night, and I was just thinking about how that film about a group of friends who are together is very much based on our real friendships. And then it's about someone who wants to meet a boyfriend on vacation. And that idea of having a vacation boyfriend and lugging him back to the real world actually happened to Joel," Rogers says.

He adds, "John-Michael is such a lovely person. We all had such a fun time together in New Orleans celebrating their bachelor weekends."

And watching the movie, Rogers says, "was just a really lovely reminder, because we shot that movie over four years ago and to just know that was right after he had met him and that they're getting married now and that we're all gonna be there, it's just a very, very special thing. I'm very excited for him."

While they admittedly also haven't figured out what wedding gifts they'll give the couple, Bowen asks aloud, "What do you get for the people who have it all? They are really settled into their domestic life." The Wicked star then notes that whatever they gift them, it should be "a thing that will give them delight," adding that he's "not putting too much pressure on myself."

"They both love Marshalls," Yang quips, before Rogers jokes that he would tap one of the categories they've created for the "It's Giving Gifts!" campaign, "For them, I would say they fall under the category of 'best gifts for your friend who is so locked in on working out, they're ready for the apocalypse.' Because those boys are fit."

"They love their fitness, so I would maybe get them a chic nice water bottle or some workout clothes," Rogers continues.

Booster announced his engagement on Aug. 31, 2024, by sharing a photo on X of himself proposing to Sudsina with the sweet caption: "Vacation boyfriend —-> Vacation husband. Try to be normal about this."

In a prior conversation with PEOPLE, the Love Hotel host also dished on possible locations for their honeymoon. "We both really love traveling, but we want to go to some place that neither of us have been before," he said. "And that's actually hard because we've both traveled so much."

Booster added, "We're thinking maybe either Portugal or Spain. We've been all over Spain, but neither of us have done Madrid, wildly, so we are thinking about that."
