Months before the tragic news of Bonnie Tyler’s death broke fans’ hearts around the world on Thursday, the singer was getting ready to rock stages across Europe for her upcoming tour.
The 75-year-old Welsh singer sat for an interview with* Hello!* in March, during which she shared her hopes for her upcoming UK shows in Manchester, London and Cardiff. “I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows,” Tyler told the outlet at the time. “I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”
“I do home Pilates, only 20 minutes a day — it’s something I can do in my hotel rooms,” she added. “I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time.”

But Tyler was nothing but ready to tackle her upcoming shows, telling the outlet that she was still riding a high from a show in Belfast.
“The waterfront was sold out there. It was fantastic and the Irish people are so wonderful,” she gushed. “I love it. I’m really looking forward to doing the Cardiff show as well.”
The three-time Grammy nominee, known for the hit ‘80s songs “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” shared that she was always happy to perform a mix of her classic songs and new offerings for her fans every show. Tyler had recently released two singles in 2026, “Only Love” on March 21 and “One World One Home” on April 24. She was due to perform in Malta on May 22 and in Germany on May 30, and was scheduled for several festival performances and solo shows in Europe over the summer and fall.
“I always do the old hit records and some new stuff,” she explained. “I still record new material because my fans cry out for it.”

Tyler’s last live performance before her death was at a London concert in March.
Two months later, Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, in May. The singer’s manager announced at the time that Tyler was “recuperating,” however, the next day, it was announced that the Welsh musician had been put placed in an “induced coma.”
She awoke from the coma in June but remained in intensive care. Her team noted that Tyler remained “very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” but her condition was “improving.” They were hopeful her tour would resume in the fall.
“As such we are sorry to tell everyone that we will be cancelling, or postponing until next year where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer,” a statement released then read. “This will affect every current show until the end of August. At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead.”

On Thursday, a statement on Tyler’s website announced that she had “unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.
“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy,” the statement concluded.
Tyler is survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan, whom she married July 1973, three sisters and two brothers.
