"In the current climate where plus-size bodies are being erased from entertainment, it was such an honor to see this icon make her Broadway debut," Montoya wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of meeting her friend backstage.
Montoya opened up to PEOPLE about the evening, saying, "Seeing Chrissy onstage meant so much to the plus-size community. Her resilience during these times, where we're told our bodies do not deserve to exist anymore, made us feel like we can do anything! And look damn good doing it!"
Montoya's original video has generated more than 250,000 views, and fans flooded the comments section to share how much the moment meant to them.

Metz, 45, has long been vocal about body acceptance. Last August, she told PEOPLE that while she had lost some weight, her feelings about GLP-1s were complicated.

The Hunting Wives star said. “There are too many people who think it you're not thin enough, you're not good enough," she said. "If you're diabetic and need to lower your A1C, these are things that are important to take care of. But if you already have a restrictive eating disorder and take something that minimizes your appetite, it can become a very slippery slope.”
Metz says that like Montoya, she's been proud to be a face of body positivity over the years. As a big fan of therapy, Metz, 44, knows that it's important to heal what's inside, especially after years of her own disordered eating when she'd turn to food for comfort and love.
“I've had thin, beautiful women with their jogging strollers tell me, ‘You don't know how much your story helped me,'” she said of being honest about disordered eating. “I'm just like, ‘What?!' But you realize that everyone has their struggles, their anxiety or depression or grief. Skinniness doesn't equal happiness."
