Amanda Seyfried revealed that she wore "a prosthetic butthole" while filming her recent movie The Testament of Ann Lee

Seyfried portrays 18th century religious figure Ann Lee, founder of a Christian sect known as the Shakers, in the movie

The actress said the prosthetic body part is not visible in the movie, but she utilized it "just in case" for a scene that required nudity

Amanda Seyfried has a surprising confession to make about her most recent movie.

The Mean Girls star, 40, revealed that she wore what she described as a "prosthetic butthole" for sequences that required nudity from her character in The Testament of Ann Lee during a Wednesday, Feb. 25 interview on the BBC's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show in the U.K.

"This movie, it needed to be graphic, so, like, I had a prosthetic butthole," she told interviewer Scott Mills, in a moment from her appearance on the show teased out on BBC Radio 2's Instagram page. "It was cool. It was exciting," she added, when asked "How was that for you?"

In The Testament of Ann Lee, Seyfried portrays the real-life Ann Lee, an 18th-century English woman who founded a Christian sect known as the Shakers. The movie depicts the movement's founding and eventual move to New York in colonial-era United States history.

"I was pregnant and naked but I wasn't naked at all, and at the end of the movie, I'm standing in front of a burning building with just a merkin. I felt so free," Seyfried added of her nude scene in the movie's final moments. As interviewer Mills began to wrap up Seyfried's interview, she added, "You cannot see my butthole in [the scene], but I swear there is a prosthetic butthole there."

Seyfried's additional comment prompted Mills to ask why the production utilized the prosthetic if audiences never see it. "Just in case," she deadpanned in response.
