- The twisty thriller stars Sarah Snook as a mom whose son, Milo, goes missing after a playdate.
- The finale reveals the reason behind Milo's disappearance, which exposes a shocking family secret.
What happens when a parent's worst fear becomes reality? Peacock's *All Her Fault *doesn't shy away from the unnerving answer.
Based on Andrea Mara's best-selling novel of the same name, *All Her Fault *follows successful mother Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook), whose life turns upside down when she goes to pick up her son Milo (Duke McCloud) from his first playdate, only to find out he's missing.
"As every parent's worst nightmare begins to unfold, new questions lead to deep secrets, revealing cracks in the Irvines' seemingly perfect world until everything is left shattered," reads the official synopsis.
Throughout the series, which premiered on Nov. 6, hidden tensions and long-buried secrets gradually peel back the layers of the family's all-but-flawless facade. So, what really happened to Milo? Here's what you need to know about the *All Her Fault *ending — and why Jake Lacy says a certain character "had to go."

The limited series kicks off with Marissa arriving to pick up Milo from his playdate at Jenny Kaminski's (Dakota Fanning) house, only to find he's gone. Jenny swears she never scheduled a playdate, and a wave of panic hits Marissa as she realizes her son is missing.
As the story unfolds across eight episodes, the search for Milo slowly exposes family secrets far darker than anyone, including the audience, could have imagined.

In the end, authorities trace Milo's disappearance back to Carrie Finch (Sophia Lillis), the nanny that Jenny hired (and the person everyone suspected). She snatched the young boy straight from school, and police later discovered that she didn't act alone. It turns out Carrie's criminal ex, Kyle (Dominic Masterson), and her crooked father, Rob (Erroll Shand), are complicit in the abduction.

Milo is ultimately rescued thanks to his dad, Peter (Jake Lacy), who pieces together where the kidnappers are hiding. He tracks them down to a motel and shows up with a bag full of cash. Peter gives it to Rob, and while he's distracted counting the bills, Peter kills him with a lamp. He soon finds Milo in a closet, then hides the boy in the trunk of a car. Peter leaves his son at the police station, staging the scene so it seems like the kidnappers returned Milo themselves.
But the question remains: why did Carrie take him? Fortunately, the finale fills in all the blanks and reveals her motive.

Chaos erupts in the finale when Carrie suddenly shows up at the Irvines' house with a gun. She accidentally shoots and kills Marissa's close friend and coworker, Colin Dobbs (Jay Ellis), but insists she isn't there to hurt anyone or take Milo back. Rather, she just wants to tell Marissa the truth about her husband, Peter.
Carrie reveals that she isn't really Carrie Finch; her real name is Josephine "Josie" Murphy. Six years earlier, she'd been in a horrific car crash with Peter and Marissa, which killed her newborn baby. Marissa had always believed Carrie/Josie died by suicide, but she claims the truth is far more shocking. According to her, it wasn't her baby who died that night — it was Marissa's.
Carrie/Josie argues that after Peter realized his and Marissa's infant had died, he switched the babies and took her child, who we now know as Milo. At this point, Peter wrestles Carrie/Josie for the gun. They struggle, but he kills her.
With the police on their way, Peter tells Marissa everything. He admits Milo isn't their son and confirms he switched the babies after the accident.
"He wasn't ours," Marissa says. "He was hers." Peter tries to rationalize what he did, reiterating that he believed Carrie/Josie was dead and that he only wanted to save them from the pain of losing a child.
"Peter really believes his lies, there's a lot of justification and he believes it wholesale for him," Lacy recently told **. "There's no questioning in the choices that he's made, and then that provides room to really commit to his story… He has no shame. He's like, 'I did the right thing. If you disagree with me, it's not even a matter of perspective. You're incorrect. I've done the right thing here.'"
Detective Alcaras (Michael Peña), who's been on Milo's case from day one, eventually connects the dots as well. He notices that Milo and Carrie/Josie experience the world through synesthesia, a rare condition in which the senses overlap (e.g., hearing colors, touching sounds).

Despite everything Peter's done and all the people he's killed to keep the truth buried, Marissa doesn't turn him in. She mainly stays silent because, in her mind, getting her husband arrested might mean losing Milo for good.
Time passes, and everyone gathers for Colin's service. Karma finally catches up, however, as Peter goes into shock after kissing Marissa. He is deathly allergic to soy, and something she ate contained it. Peter fumbles for his EpiPen, but it's expired. Oh, and the emergency kit that's *always *in their car is missing. Help is on the way, but it's too late, as Peter dies.
The show then flashes back, and viewers see Marissa taking the medical kit out of their car and swapping out Peter's EpiPen with an expired one.
Reflecting on his character's ending, Lacy told EW that Peter's death felt both "surprising and inevitable." He admitted he was "disappointed" to see his character die but agreed it was the right conclusion.
"Peter had to go, let's be honest," he said. "As Peter is dying, I would assume an audience is like, 'Yeah, that makes sense.' But the way in which he goes out, you're like, 'Oh, of course.' It is fun that that's planted seven episodes earlier and then left to kind of fester."

At the end of *All Her Fault*, Alcaras meets with Marissa and tells her that he's figured everything out. But instead of reopening the case, Alcaras is officially closing it for good.
In the final moments, Marissa and Jenny sit together, wine glasses in hand, watching their sons play with bubbles.
