- *Alejandro Sanz: When No One Sees Me* director Alvaro Ron reveals he and his team got pulled over by Miami Police Marine Patrol while filming the three-part docuseries.

- The filmmaker said they ended up getting a boat speeding ticket for trying to keep up with the star who was on his own boat.

- "We thought we were going to end up in jail that day," he said.

*Alejandro Sanz: When No One Sees Me* director Alvaro Ron paid the price — literally — for trying to keep up with the Grammy-winning musician.

The filmmaker revealed during the U.S. premiere of the three-part docuseries at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday that he and his team actually received a boat speeding ticket from Miami Police Marine Patrol while shadowing the Latin music star on the high seas.

“Can I tell this, Alejandro?” Ron asked the musician during a post-screening conversation moderated by **’s editor-in-chief Patrick Gomez.

Sanz, who attended the discussion via Zoom, laughed as he replied, “I don’t know!”

“I don’t know either!” Ron exclaimed. “I may as well, right? We’re in New York. We’re out of Florida.”

The director proceeded to set the scene.

“Alejandro is well known in Miami, right? He goes out in his boat and, apparently, he said we hired a guy that was too slow to follow him,” he teased. “So he went on his boat, you can see that in episodes 2 and 3, and we were trying to follow Alejandro on his boat, just trying, but the funny thing is we got the cops stopping us and we got a speeding ticket!”

Ron explained that they were questioned by authorities over their filming permits, which they had secured beforehand, but they were saved by an unexpected hero. “The funny thing was, we thought we were going to end up in jail that day, and for some mysterious reason there’s this guy that shows up, this cop, and says, ‘Oh, are you friends with Alejandro?’” he said. “We were like, ‘Yes, yes!’"

Sanz jokingly added, “Twenty-five years of living in Miami, you know, I know people!”

Ron chimed in, “That’s when you realize who Alejandro Sanz is.”

*Alejandro Sanz: When No One Sees Me *follows the global icon as he looks back at his acclaimed career ahead of the release of his first new music in two years. The three-part docuseries also features appearances from some of Sanz’s biggest fans and collaborators, including Shakira, Camila Cabello, Carin Leon, and more.

Speaking at the event, Sanz explained that his initial reaction to being asked to star in a documentary about his life was: “What the hell am I gonna do?”

“What am I going to tell about my career that is not out there?” the “Corazón Partío” singer remarked. “But it was a very beautiful thing to go inside me, and go inside the things that happened around me, and I think that’s the best thing about this is [allows viewers to get] to know [me] better than you know before this documentary.”

Over the course of his career, Sanz has won 24 Latin Grammy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and has worked with artists like Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, and Tony Bennett. He also performed at the White House during the Obama administration in 2013.
